Welcome to another fantastic school year, SPJers! I’m excited to meet you all, be it again or for the very first time. We’re in for a great school year, and I’m thrilled you’ll be along for the ride.
Members of OUSPJ recognize Kate Hiller as a valuable member, dedicated former president and outstanding graduate from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, but it looks like this reputation goes beyond the brick streets of Athens.
DMarking another successful year for the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism students and OUSPJ, OU students took home nine Mark of Excellence awards at the Region 4 conference in Cincinnati.
On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, Mark Somerson, Science Editor of the Columbus Dispatch, spoke to Ohio University SPJ regarding the growth and importance of science and environmental journalism in today’s world. Somerson has worked for 24 years at the Dispatch and became the Science Editor in 2002. He oversees science, the environment, health care and transportation stories.
On Tuesday, January 27, 2015, OU SPJ partnered with Scripps Howard Visiting Professional Andy Alexander’s Ethics, Mass Media and Society class to show the documentary A Fragile Trust. About 100 students attended the showing of the film, which discussed “plagiarism, power, and Jayson Blair at The New York Times.” Students were also encouraged to tweet about the film and the following discussion using the hashtag #AFragileTrustOU.
