Sudan in Transition: Promise and Perils of Citizen Engagement

Hi SPJers!

Join us this Tuesday, March 1 in Scripps 111 from 5:00 – 6:15 to welcome Rebecca Hamilton, a special correspondent on Sudan for the Washington Post. We will be partnering with the Institute for International Journalism to hear her presentation titled, “Sudan in Transition: Promise and Perils of Citizen Engagement.”

Sudan is the largest country in Africa. The country recently voted to split in two between the predominately Muslim and Sudanese Arab-led north and the Southern Sudanese.

Rebecca has just completed her multi-year investigation on the impact of advocacy on Darfur policy as well as her book Fighting for Darfur: Public Action and the Struggle to Stop Genocide is a culmination of this investigation and is now available. Other writings have been published in a range of outlets including Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, The New Republic, Newsweek and The International Herald Tribune.

Can’t wait to see you there!
